They really just don't make 'em like they used to

My mother bought me this as a birthday gift maybe a year or more ago which was extraordinarily kind of her. A full set of these is so expensive, but she had good reason for doing so! You see, I had grown up using our All-Clad cookware every since I was a little kid. My mother swore by the pans as she bought them for herself sometime after college and they've been an unchanging staple having gone through some of my strangest cooking experiments as a child and still coming out pristine on the other side. Now, that is to say I had quite high standards for these pans. My mother's set had lasted her over 30ish years, so I really considered these to be a worthwhile investment.

So that brings me to these...

My mother actually didn't know that when she bought me the pans she had bought me a full *nonstick* set. She's a bit on the older side and thought that maybe one of the big pans was nonstick, but the rest were like the ones she'd had for so long. This turned out to be a huge mistake honestly, but one I can't really fault her for. Why would she think that this company that made such well regarded cookware would create something so absolutely abysmal?

Within perhaps 6 months of me using them like any any normal pots and pans according to the care instructions on the website (to which I would like to note, they have now changed their care instructions and these are no longer really advertised as *dishwasher safe*) the film on the inside started peeling away. Immediately I thought this was some kind of odd defect and called my mother about how we might contact the company for a replacement. I will say that we did get the option to replace the pieces that had started to peel in a relatively prompt manner, so props to the customer care team there.

From that point on I was very diligent in only handwashing the pans (a hastle most of the time but I didn't want anything to happen to my mom's gift as we were not going to be able to get any replacements from this point forward). Of course, I am only human and every now and again I'd need to send the pans through a normal wash because I was short on time and drying rack space in some way or another. You would expect that pans treated with otherwise what would be considered too much caution would come out just fine on the other side, right?

NOPE. Not in the slightest.

I unloaded my dishwasher this morning to find my medium sized pot peeling like a 3rd degree sunburn or perhaps a snake in the middle of a molt. I had seen some issues on the edges of the the other pans after hand scrubbing, but nothing that rendered it usable. This is unusable. I honestly don't even know what I'm supposed to do at this point. Even if I peel away all of this film, can I scrub away the faulty adhesive so I'm no ingesting whatever chemicals they added to it? I've considered going to a few friends with some metal working tools to grind down and re-polish the inside so it's maybe usable again.

I cannot fathom why this company would have taken their perfectly good set of pans and added this useless film to them. (I'm assuming it's to cash in on that 2 year planned obsolescence type production.) Especially since after it comes off it just becomes a health hazard. There's no redemption for my pans, which I find to be an absolute shame.

I'm not looking forward to when my mother comes to visit and I can no longer hide that her gift was in vain because she got so excited that "The pans that I love so much are on sale!". No mom, the one you love weren't on sale, the company enticed you to buy something they know is faulty and they still got about $800 dollars out of you.

I bought a 20 dollar nonstick pan from Bed Bath and Beyond 5 years ago that's held up better than these. Good riddance.
Disappointment

I purchased my 7-piece cookware in 2020 when I switched to an induction cooktop. I loved my new All-Clad D3 cookware originally. They looked great, cleaned up well and the non-stick surface worked great. However, this past year, I’ve noticed that the nonstick surface is coming up. My large pot has a piece of non stick that’s missing in the bottom and the nonstick lining is pealing at the top of my two Qt pot. I baby these pots, hand washing at all times, and only use Wood or rubber utensils. My prior set from Belique lasted for over 2 decades. These pots are haven’t lasted 4 years and are certainly not worth the price tag!
Non Stick Functionality

I own more pieces of All Clad than I can count, from a tiny butter warmer to 5 and 6 quart sauté pans to a wok and 16" roaster. I've also owned several iterations of their D3 non stick pans. It's inevitable that the non stick surface will deteriorate over time, but I've never had the non-stick functionality give out in less than 10 years. The care guide is pretty clear that these pans are not meant to be put over high heat...medium or a little above is really all they're meant to sustain. If your recipe calls for a very hot non stick surface, we should really use a heavy duty cast iron pan and crank the surface up to 500+F on your laser thermometer. Also, the care guide says it's oven safe to 500F but it's really not meant to get that hot on the stove top.
Terrible. Nonstick Surface rubs off within a couple years.

Terrible. Bought this non-stick pan in April of 2020. The pan gets used everyday, mostly for cooking eggs for breakfast. Never used abrasive tools on it, only ever plastic/silicon spatulas etc. Always hand-washed, never put in dishwasher. Reached out to All-Clad customer service for warranty replacement/information. They insisted metal spatulas must have been used, basically called me a liar and they told me the non-stick surface is safe to consume as it continues to rub off. Would not issue a replacement or repair. So, I guess you not only get a crappy pan but you also get a meal of nonstick coating when you buy this piece of junk. Yum yum! My wife and I also have many of the D3 stainless pans that seem to be great and hopefully last a lifetime…. They missed the mark with this one though big time.
